Why No-Gi is the right choice for kids

Nobody attacks your child while wearing a uniform. That is the whole argument, and it is why TNT teaches No-Gi only.

Traditional Gi Jiu-Jitsu teaches grips on thick cotton lapels and sleeves. Those grips do not exist on a school playground. A child who has only trained in a Gi has spent years building a game around clothing that will not be there.

No-Gi works off the body itself, so what your child learns transfers straight to a t-shirt, a winter coat, or nothing at all. It is faster, more athletic, and much closer to how a real scuffle actually looks.

We teach all three parts, not just grappling

Most kids programs teach one thing. A child who can only grapple is still stuck if it never reaches the ground, or if the whole thing could have been avoided entirely.

  • No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — escapes, control and submissions for when someone has already grabbed them
  • MMA — striking basics, distance and footwork, so they are not helpless before it gets close
  • Awareness training — reading a situation early, leaving before it starts, and who to tell afterwards

Awareness is the part most gyms skip, and it is what keeps a child out of trouble in the first place. The best outcome is always the fight that never happened.

Bullying, handled properly

We teach children to control a situation rather than escalate it. A child who knows they can handle themselves has far less to prove, and that is what actually stops bullying.

We train for self-defense, not for scoring points. It is a family-friendly room, and parents often train in the adult class while their kid is on the mats.

FAQ

What age can my child start?

Five. Below that, most children are not ready to train with a partner safely.

Is it safe?

Classes are supervised and split by belt level, so your child is not paired with someone far ahead of them. Falling safely is taught from day one.

What should they wear?

Shorts and a t-shirt for the first class. Nothing else needed.

Can I watch?

Yes. Come and watch a class before deciding anything.

What if my child is shy?

Most are on day one. Nobody is made to perform in front of the room.
